About the Developer
Hi, I'm Bill. I've been building software and managing networks since the early 1980s, back when computers beeped more than they talked and the "web" wasn't even a thing yet.
Over the years I've worked everywhere from private businesses to government agencies, including helping roll out the very first World Wide Web server at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in the mid-90s.
I've built applications in just about every language that's come and gone over the past four decades - PHP, Python, Java, JavaScript, C#, Objective-C, ColdFusion, ASP/.NET, Clipper, RPG, COBOL, Fortran and more - along with the networks and servers those systems run on. If it connects, computes, or communicates, odds are I've worked on it at some point.
For thirty years I served as Software Engineer and Network Admin for Softec Systems, designing web applications, managing hosting and DNS, running mail servers, and supporting clients across multiple industries. I've worked on enterprise tools, asset tracking systems, early internet architecture, and everything in between.
Why Smaq Games Exists
After a lifetime of building software, I started writing my own games for a simple reason:
I got tired of ads. I got tired of tracking. And I got tired of feeling watched every time I wanted to play something.
Modern web games come overloaded with analytics scripts, pop-ups, telemetry, and all kinds of behind-the-scenes snooping. I wanted the opposite - something clean, fast, private, and fun.
So I started building portable games years ago, and in the last decade and a half I've focused on making versions that run directly in the browser with no downloads and no data collection.
That's what Smaq Games is all about: free, private, browser-based fun with zero tracking.
What You'll Find Here
Smaq.com is a small, hand-built corner of the web focused on simple goals:
- Lightweight games designed to run smoothly on any device.
- A strict no-ads, no-analytics, no-tracking policy.
- Clean interfaces and responsive controls.
- Code written by someone who genuinely loves building things - not someone trying to squeeze in another banner ad.
I hope you enjoy these games as much as I enjoy creating them. Smaq.com is my way of giving people a place to play without the noise, without the clutter, and without someone looking over your shoulder.
If even one person comes away thinking, "Finally - a game that just plays," then this whole project is worth it.
